Precision in woodcutting is of fundamental importance especially for the creation of furniture, models, and other objects. The circular saw is one of the most suitable tools for both amateur and professional levels. More about track saws here https://electrogardentools.com/p/best-track-saws/

If you are planning to venture into the fascinating world of woodworking, then you need to know the tools of the trade so you can understand which ones are best suited to your needs. Mainly the cutting of wood is carried out with manual and electric saws, among the latter we find the very useful circular saw.

You have probably seen some of them in action in a workshop or perhaps by some friends who are passionate about DIY. The circular table saw allows you to make oblique and straight cuts of different lengths, which is why it is a favorite of various professional craftsmen, although it is also possible to find ‘entry-level’ models for DIY at an affordable price. To begin with, therefore, it is not necessary to buy the best table saw by spending a fortune.

How it looks

The shape of the circular blade gives its name to this type of tool which is usually driven by an asynchronous, single-phase or three-phase electric motor. Between these motors there is a difference in power, for example the single-phase ones reach 230 V while the three-phase ones double the power with 400 V.

The toothed blade is placed on a support on which the piece to be cut is made to slide. The effective efficiency and speed of the cut are determined by the power of the motor that determines the revolutions of the saw and the diameter of the blade. Basically, to use a circular saw, just turn it on using the on/off button, but the models on the market have other functions such as the regulator for the cutting depth or the support baseplate.

More advanced products may have a graduated scale for cutting angle calibration, a slide guide, and perhaps a laser pointer that greatly increases the accuracy of the saw. Of fundamental importance is the locking system of the drive spindle which makes the saw safe to use.

How does it work

The circular saw is mainly used for woodworking but can work with other materials such as metals, resins, and composite agglomerates. Obviously, the cutting capacity depends a lot on the blade and the diameter of the disc. A technique often used is to mount larger blades of the object to be cut on the saw, for example on a 10 cm board you can use an 18 cm disc.

To block the piece of wood you have to insert it in a vice to hold it still. Without a vice you risk making a mistake in the cut, thus nullifying all the preparation of the work, inevitably ruining the object. As for the chips, the movement of the circular saw distributes them backward, so no special safety systems are required. In any case, before using the saw, read all the rules and instructions to be able to perform the cut without problems and without any risk.

Safety

Since you will be using a tool capable of causing very serious injuries, it is advisable to inform yourself about the various operations that make it safe. First, equip yourself with the right clothing: cut-resistant gloves, protective goggles, masks and maybe even reinforced knee-highs. Then fix the board to be cut or the object with extreme care, carefully tightening the vice.

Next you have to adjust the depth of the cut, allowing the object to come out a few centimeters so you can be sure you have completed the operation. The most important thing, however, is to work holding the saw with two hands, releasing the grip only when the blade is completely stationary.

Different types

The circular saw exists in different shapes and types suitable for DIY enthusiasts and professionals. In addition to the bench saw that we have described in the previous paragraphs, you can find much more compact and portable circular saws. These models are usually extremely light and can be carried wherever you go. They are particularly useful if you don’t have enough space to install a workbench.

The portable saws have a single-phase electric motor, therefore by only 230 V, while the blades with a reduced diameter allow you to cut only the wood. The absence of the workbench implies that to cut objects you have to hold the saw firmly during the cut that can be performed both oblique and straight.

The blade

We conclude this guide with a little mention of the blades. For precise cuts we recommend choosing blades with 40 or 80 teeth, while for normal ones 25-30 teeth are sufficient. The former are also particularly suitable for cutting plastic and aluminum, while the latter are very good for wood. You can find circular saws and blades in various DIY stores or on e-commerce sites, where prices are often very affordable. Please note that some products will be delivered to you in pieces and therefore you will have to follow the assembly instructions.
